1. When you first go to your farm, your farmer will be on the center square. As long as your farmer is actually in the middle of a square (instead of being on the border of 4 squares), go ahead and 'trap' him in by surrounding that square with hay bales, a fence, or any other decoration. This does 2 things: It speeds up your own farming, plus when your neighbors show up to help you out, it'll speed up their time as well, so that more of your neighbors will be willing to help you out!
2. If your current goal is to get as much cash as possible, and you are at a lower level, start by planting Tomatoes. They give 174 coins per day per square, and 3 XP per day per square. Personally, I like to spend the lower levels of FarmVille (I define 'lower levels' as anything under 30) by getting as much cash as possible, because I want to expand my farm as quickly as possible to the 22x22 Big Ole Plantation.
3. You need to get the maximum number of neighbors allowed in FarmVille - 300! Of course, the easiest way to do this is to invite your own friends. But I would guess that most of us don't have 300 friends on Facebook! So here's all that you have to do. Go to the FarmVille Forums, and you'll find an 'Add-Me Neighbor' section. Here, you will find thousands of people who post that they are looking for neighbors. They post a link with their request, and all you have to do is click it to request to be their friend. They usually ask you to type 'farmville' in the message you send them, and that's it! You can nail out 300 of these within a few days, and then you'll be getting a ton of free gifts from them daily. Doing this also will help you greatly in getting a few of your ribbons.
4. You may or may not know, but you can go to www.farmville.com, and play FarmVille directly on their website, and it interfaces with your Facebook account. Aside from the fact that you can send special gifts that are exclusive to farmville.com, but you also have the Live Game Feed directly under the FarmVille game window, so you can easily watch as your neighbors post special gifts, animals, mystery gifts, mystery eggs, and bonuses that are good for some quick cash. You can gain an easy 50 - 500 coins just about any time that you want, provided that you have enough neighbors.
5. If you're playing FarmVille the correct way, you should be able to hit at least 1 level per day. That might sound a little impossible for you to think, but trust me, people are doing it daily - and I'm one of them. And it's not difficult to level up quickly either. If you're planting crops to get the most coins per day, there's plenty of items that can buy for cash (never use your FV Cash to buy items to level up faster!), and then turn around and sell them for some quick XP.
6. Ribbons may seem like something trivial to you, but they help to excel your game so much. You get a ton of coins and XP every time you get a ribbon, and as long as you 'Share the Wealth' with your neighbors, it creates this snowball "Pay-It-Forward" effect. You'll find that your neighbors are stopping by your farm to help out and fertilize your crops much more often. And as you should know, when a neighbor fertilizes your crops, those crops earn you even more XP, which in turn blasts you towards your next level even faster.
